Lost Beatles Solo for Here Comes The Sun Discovered
01.30.12
George Harrison’s lost guitar solo for the song “Here Comes The Sun” surfaced after 43 years. The solo was discovered on the original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded their 1969 album Abbey Road.
Harrison’s son Dhani, the band’s producer George Martin, and Martin’s son Giles found the solo when visiting the studio (see video below). At 1:01 you can hear the guitar solo start, and you can see the pleasant surprise on Dhani’s face to hear the solo as he shakes his arms to the beat.
The solo never made the cut and never popped up on any reissues for the band’s music or other outtake collections. Although you might not be able to get Harrison’s solo as part of a release, The Beatles are still releasing new media for the world to consume.
A new iPad app called “The Guitar Collection: George Harrison” will be released February 23 for $9.99 in the App Store. The app includes photos, descriptions, audio and video footage, and even some nifty 360-degree image angles by photographer Steven Sebring that will almost bring Harrison’s guitar to life.
