Although metalheads probably don’t tune into American Idol very often (if at all), Judas Priest fans would have been pleasantly surprised to hear James Durbin’s rendition of “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” on Tuesday night.
While the performance was a bit cheesy, Judas Priest aren’t ones to shy away from some hot rockin. Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), who is now an Idol judge, provided the following commentary after the performance:
“James, that was crazy f--king good! I love it that you’re over the top. Always have. You’re the greatest.”
Durbin was able to mimic some of Halford’s signatures high-note squeals and pulled off a ‘heavier’ performance than the rest of the 12 finalists who appeared for the first time in front of a studio audience on Tuesday.
