Green Day unveiled a new trailer and the corresponding artwork for their upcoming studio album ¡Uno!, which is the first of three albums in a series. Fittingly, the next two album in the three-part release are ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! The first album will be released on September 25 in the U.S. and September 24 in the U.K., the second on November 13 of this year, and the third on January 15, 2013.
As you can tell in the album art above, the picture is of Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong with pink x’s over his eyes and a bit of a smirk. In the trailer below, you can see the phrases “Carpe Diem,” “Crushing Bastards,” and “Makeout Party” written out on a board, which presumably are three song titles from the new album.
So what does the new music sound like? Well the LA Times has a theory:
Green Day “brings in bits of ‘This Is Radio Clash’as well as the Clash's ‘Magnificent Seven.’ The former is heard in the staccato rhythm that opens the song, and the latter is heard in the way the Green Day song re-appropriates the Clash's bass-driven ‘Magnificent Seven’ melody.”
What do you think? Is this clip an ode to punk rock past?
