Lamb of God Frontman Still in Jail Over Alleged Manslaughter

Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe remains in jail in the Czech Republic for a manslaughter charge that arose from a 2010 incident at one of the metal band’s concerts. Although Blythe posted $200,000 bail, he is still in custody awaiting a prosecutor’s approval for his release. Due to a three-day deadline plus national holidays, the singer could be in jail until July 9.
The manslaughter charge stemmed from a confrontation in which one fan who jumped onto the stage at a concert got pushed back into the crowd and hit his head. The concertgoer died a few days later. Lamb of God’s PR firm Adrenaline PR issued a statement saying:
“…under no circumstances was there a fight of any kind involved. This incident deals with a fan that three times during the concert jumped the barricade and rushed Randy during the performance. It is alleged that the third time, security was not able to reach him and that Randy pushed him back into the audience where supposedly he fell and hit his head.”
If convicted, Blythe faces up to 10 years in prison. Metal fans and rockstars have all shown their support using the hashtag #FreeRandyBlythe. Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian wrote:
“It’s complete and utter bullshit for him to be treated like a criminal for something he didn’t do. Now fans can see firsthand why there’s no stage diving anymore. Especially in the post-Darrel world we live in… Of course it’s sad that this person died, it’s a tragedy, but it’s not Randy’s fault.”
In the video below you can see footage from the show, although it’s very tough to even gleam any misconduct on Blythe’s part. Some even say the security guard had more to do with pushing the fan back into the crowd than Randy.
