Swedish House Mafia Describe Themselves as a Modern Day Beatles 06.22.12

Swedish House Mafia not only see themselves as a modern version of The Beatles, but want to work with Paul McCartney, who Sebastian Ingrosso says is the biggest music legend living. Ingrosso told Rolling Stone:

“I think The Beatles made something that’s kind of melancholic to sad and happy combined, and that’s just amazing… I kind of analyze music a lot, and I think that what The Beatles have done is what we do today. It doesn’t matter that we do dance music.”

While the trio, comprising of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, and Steve Angello, relate electronic dance music (EDM) to the rock music scene of the past, not all DJs are created equal according to some. Always one to speak his mind, Deadmau5 called many of the latest big-name DJs like David Guetta and Skrillex “button-pushers.” Deadmau5 said in a Rolling Stone cover story:

"David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks – like, 'Here's one with Akon, check it out!' Even Skrillex isn't doing anything too technical. He has a laptop and a MIDI recorder, and he's just playing his shit ... People are, thank God, smartening up about who does what, but there's still button-pushers getting paid half a million. And not to say I'm not a button-pusher. I'm just pushing a lot more buttons.”

Swedish House Mafia have been on the receiving end of such criticisms with their live show, with Angello performing to a pre-recorded set at Amsterdam’s Dance Valley. Angello defended himself, saying:

“Listen, I wouldn’t be doing this if I was faking. I could’ve done shitloads of other stuff. I’ve done this since I was twelve, I know how to beatmatch.”

Regardless of DJ “purism,” Swedish House Mafia would love to collaborate with one of music’s greats and mesh the new generation of dance music with Paul McCartney and the rock history of The Beatles.

SHM will be headlining the 65,000 capacity Milton Keynes Bowl in UK on July 14. Watch their latest video ‘Greyhound’, played in Absolut Vodka commercials, below:

OK so they say that they are bigger than the Beatles big woop the Beatles once said they were bigger than Jesus. Both of these bands have made (in the Beatles case) and SHM brillant songs that people want to listen to and see done live. Look at Paul McCartney hes just turn 70 and is still a well know and respected muscian regardless of what genre you listen to.
